Boom Arts Announces 2 Intern Positions: Apply Now to Start in September!

Want to immerse yourself in contemporary world theatre? Are you passionate about helping the performing arts to connect with communities and make a social impact? Are you curious about what it takes, behind-the-scenes, to bring a whole season of provocative, relevant performance to Portland?

Learn the ropes this year as a Boom Arts intern! Boom Arts, Portland's source for thought-provoking global theatre, seeks candidates to fill 2 new volunteer internship positions for the 2016-2017 academic year. Internships are 1 semester at minimum, 2 semesters preferred, with a weekly commitment of 5-10 hours plus attendance at at least 80% of public performances (see web site for exact dates and please confirm you can do this in advance of applying). Boom Arts' offices are in Portland's Pearl District and our venues are located around the city. All other details, including how to apply, are below.

Interning with Boom Arts gave me the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of producing locally while working with and learning from artists from all over the world. The chance to be an integral part of the team working on projects with both global and local impact was an invaluable experience personally and professionally.

-Devan Wardrop-Saxton, Intern 2014-2015

The internship with Boom Arts was full of real hands-on work in both running an arts non-profit and the theatrical production of relevant and international performance. I learned a lot about both of those things... Something I also enjoyed was that I got to meet and talk to great local, national and international artists.

-Marlon Jímenez-Oviedo, Intern 2015-2016

Please review the below opportunities and determine which opportunity would be the best fit for your strengths, interests, and skills. Then send in your application via email to info@boomarts.org.

(1) Marketing, Communications & Audience Services Intern
What you'll do:
Help us get the word out about our performances, particularly through social media and direct community outreach. Prior to each show, you'll solicit and coordinate our volunteer ushers. At showtime, you'll help run front-of-house.
Our ideal candidate:
We're seeking a friendly and skilled communicator who can transmit what's great about our programming to a wide and diverse audience. You should be fluent in social media and have talent for distilling ideas into tweets. You should feel comfortable speaking to diverse audiences-- the more languages you can speak, the better!

(2) Documentation, Evaluation & Research Intern
What you'll do:
Lead documentation efforts for Boom Arts projects using photo, video, and interviews. Implement project evaluation strategies like audience surveys; attendance tallies; liaising with peer evaluators; and drafting post-mortem reports. Conduct online research to support our fundraising, audience development, artistic programming, and community outreach efforts.
Who's the best candidate:
We're seeking a curious and inquisitive researcher, preferably with theatre knowledge (aspiring dramaturgs take note!), who is also adept at turning research data into powerful narratives that show how our work makes a social impact. You should have access to, understanding of, and passion for using basic documentation gear (video, video editing software, camera). Please click here for an example of the kind of video documentation we will ask you to work on.

TO APPLY
Please email your application to info@boomarts.org, with the title of the internship position you're applying for in the email subject line. Your email should include:
-- A 1-paragraph introduction about you, your interests, and what excites you about the idea of working with Boom Arts, including links to any relevant web sites or videos that can help us get to know you a bit better
-- 1 paragraph describing why you'd be a good fit for the position you're applying for, including your relevant skills and experience;
-- Confirmation that you will be able to attend 80% or more of Boom Arts' public performances during your internship period; and
-- Whether you'd like to apply for 1 or 2 semesters (2 semester applicants will be given priority)
We'd be happy to discuss college credit possibilities with you, although this is not guaranteed.

Thanks, and we look forward to hearing from you!
